Notes from May 23, 2007 meeting

  • Introduce PGSA at a Faculty Meeting
    • Dan will introduce the PGSA at the faculty meeting on May 25, 2007
    • Cathy, Adam, and Jon will give an overview of PGSA (including how / why PGSA formed, what PGSA has done this year, what PGSA would like to do in the future) at the faculty meeting on May 29, 2007
  • Weekly Lunches
    • Idea – organize a ‘lunch-box’ lunch each week with a number (5-10) graduate students and one or two professors
    • Purpose – foster community in the department, including between faculty and students
    • What needs to be done – Adam email PGSA list to determine interest
  • Faculty Committees
    • Idea – have a graduate representative sit on the following faculty committees
    • Purpose – increase faculty / graduate student relations
    • Graduate committee (curriculum, etc)
    • Seminar / Colloquium
    • Graduate admissions (recruiting)
  • Talk to BME & other graduate student organizations
    • Idea – talk to other departments which have active graduate student groups
    • Purpose – continue to build PGSA, including incorporating ideas from these different groups
  • Exchange person between PGSA and PAC
  • Alumni component to PGSA
    • Idea – maintaining contact with past Case physics alumni
    • Purpose – networking
