Welcome to the Physics Department at Case Western Reserve University! We’re thrilled that you’ve decided to join us and we hope that you’ll enjoy the next 5-15 (just kidding) years here.

Starting graduate school can be daunting – you’ve heard horror stories of qualifying exams and Jackson’s E&M. Grad school is certainly a big change from your undergrad years, but we think you’ll find it to be a rewarding time.

The Physics Graduate Student Association (PGSA) wants to help ease your transition to Case and Cleveland, and we’ve put together this site to do just that. In the First Year Grad Student Survival Guide, you’ll find information about housing, transportation, groceries and where to find coffee on campus. You’ll also find information about Cleveland’s well-known and much loved institutions like the West Side Market and museums in University Circle, as well as favorite restaurants and bars.

While this is just an introduction, we hope it will help as you prepare to move. Be sure to read through the advice from current graduate students, and please feel free to contact us if you ever have any questions or concerns.
