{"id":1925,"date":"2011-05-01T19:35:14","date_gmt":"2011-05-01T19:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/casgroups.case.edu\/physics-senior-projects\/?p=1925"},"modified":"2016-06-07T19:38:48","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T19:38:48","slug":"near-field-imaging-of-charge-in-bulk-heterojunction-photovoltaic-materials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casgroups.case.edu\/physics-senior-projects\/near-field-imaging-of-charge-in-bulk-heterojunction-photovoltaic-materials\/","title":{"rendered":"Near Field Imaging of Charge in Bulk Heterojunction Photovoltaic Materials"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"style21\" align=\"center\"><span class=\"style22\">Keith Lupton with Kenneth Singer and Anna Sobolewska<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 align=\"center\"><span class=\"style21\"><span class=\"style20\"><em><u>Near Field Imaging of Charge in Bulk Heterojunction Photovoltaic Materials<\/u><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\">Solar Energy is by far the most plentiful source of energy in the world.\u00a0 Unlike fossil fuels, solar energy both can\u2019t be depleted on Earth and doesn\u2019t produce the negative externalities that effect our environment.\u00a0 The need to produce an affordable, efficient, and durable mechanism to capture this energy is needed more than ever.\u00a0 My research will be focusing on organic polymer based solar cells.\u00a0 I will be investigating the charge and electric field distribution in the bulk heterojunctions of these polymers using Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) in Near Field Scanning Optical Microscopy (NSOM) as the imaging technique.\u00a0 These images will provide visual electrical information in order to study both bulk heterojunction morphology and electronic properties.
